Atlantic Connexion

It’s Harvest Time!
Kings (Brent Ingersoll) celebrated 82 baptisms across five locations this Sunday – PTL! Every number has a name – each with their own story of transformation for God’s glory.

  • One of those names was Brayden (pictured above) – the oldest child of Bradford & Ashlee Rogers. It was a sacred moment as father baptized son. Nothing compares for those called as pastors to the joy of baptizing our own children. Our family is our first ministry. Praise God for the revival waves He is sending in our region – come, Holy Spirit!
Amherst (Evan Oxner) hosted Radical Revival Youth Rally this past Friday with over 60 teens and leaders from Truro, Oxford, & Blacks Harbour. Assistant Pastor Bradford Jordan shared, “This included nearly 10 from the community not connected to any church and was a great way to get people connected. We’re looking forward to next year!”

  • District Youth Co-President Martin Stehouwer hosted the second Next Gen Connect in Halifax this Saturday at Cornerstone (Denn Guptill). There were about 20 leaders present as resources and best practices in disciple-making students were shared. The final event will be held in Saint John on May 20th @ 10:00 a.m. (CLICK HERE for more information.)
Several of our Retired Ministers are receiving Decadal Service Awards from HQ this spring. This past week highlighted Steve (Heather) Bradley (upper left) for 50 years of pastoral ministry celebrated at Browns Flat Fellowship (Jay & Sharon Guptill).

  • The DBA enjoyed an evening hosted by Barb & Kevin Campbell and provided opportunity to celebrate Charles (Ruby) Bain’s 60 years of pastoral ministry (pictured above right with their proud daughter)!

Those of us who serve in Kingdom leadership do so with the grateful reminder we stand on the shoulders of faithfulness and fruitfulness because of the anointing and favour of God on those who have gone before.

The DBA convened this week for our spring session with an added half-day Dry Dock to address next steps in our 2027 Vision for 400 leaders. We were joined by five additional guests including DS Kevin Johnson of the PAOC Maritimes District.

  • This included my four-year Extended Call Review led by our General Superintendent Wayne Schmidt & National Superintendent Steve Elliott. I love serving under the authority of the Church. It is an honour and privilege to receive the direction and encouragement of those placed over me in the Lord.

The packed agenda included a presentation from Director Dean Stephenson and the Caton’s Island Session of the Camp Board for the next major capital project. The DBA approved a conceptual plan for a new administration and senior staff housing building which will be unveiled at the dedication of the Choate Dining Hall Expansion on Saturday, July 15th. Exciting days for Camp Ministry continue under the gifted leadership of Executive Director Tami Mutch-Ketch.

  • The DBA also elected Lead Pastor Jim Clements (Moncton) to complete the unexpired term of the NB Minister vacancy through 2024.
Lighthouse (John Lamos) celebrated 3 baptisms Sunday!
Moncton (Jim Clements) celebrated in two special ways this past Sunday. At the beginning of the service they dedicated 10 children/families and committed as a church to support and love them as they raise these giants for the Kingdom. Then they commissioned a Missions Team that will be leaving Friday to serve at the Clinic Papillon in Congo.
President Steve Lennox (Kingswood University) convened the first-ever Atlantic Church Leaders Roundtable on Friday for denominational leaders from Newfoundland & Labrador, and all over the Maritimes and beyond. The spirit of unity in Christ and mission was palpable. A highlight of the day included a special presentation and Q&A with Executive Director Derek Ross of the Christian Legal Fellowship.
  • The day at Kingswood University concluded with a banquet hosted by the Buckingham Leaders Network. Pastor B highlighted many of the encouraging ways God is at work through churches and leaders across the region.

The evening concluded with a keynote presentation from Brent Ingersoll (Kings) as he called Kingdom leaders to deepened humility, heightened faith, and improved unity. I would challenge each pastoral team to take 20 minutes together to receive this timely challenge as we continue to rebuild in a post-pandemic context.

Atlantic District Fleet Tracker in Action
The Pastoral Team @ Journey (Matt Maxwell) recently took time to engage the Local Church Assessment Tool to consider areas of improvement for the season ahead (Fleet Tracker). It has been encouraging as Lead Pastors and Church Boards have been responding favourably to how this new tool invites conversations about the best “Dry Dock” solutions for unleashing our churches for transformed lives.
Love Atlantic 2023!
Love Atlantic celebrated 135 churches/organizations, $445K of generosity, and 8000+ hours of volunteers service to lift up the Name of Jesus last year.

ONE Conference has always been a movement seeking to align the youth of Atlantic Canada with the heart of God. As revival spreads and Gen Z are increasingly called into a deeper relationship with Jesus, the timing of this gathering has never been more important. We are so excited to return to the Moncton Coliseum for 2023, and to be able to get everyone in ONE space, as ONE church, worshipping ONE God.
