Atlantic Connexion

Take a close look at these pictures. There’s no clearer finish line and nothing sweeter in ministry. The pastoral team in Digby (Andrew Maves) knows all EIGHT of those who were baptized this Sunday by name. They know their stories of transformation behind the public testimony of this standing stone in each spiritual journey and the ripple effect of Kingdom impact this brings. Andrew shared, “Great week! God is doing incredible things!”

Being vs. Doing – A Critical Reminder

The energy and excitement of fall momentum is palpable. These are the easiest days to slip into old habits… to our peril of both cause and soul. Tyler Stanton gives us a phenomenal reminder about the essential rhythms of Vine-abiding that come through an intentional Rule of Life.

At the center of every transforming, grounded disciple of Jesus is a vibrant life of prayer. Find below different formats for prayer including The Examen, Lectio Divina & Centring Prayer

The BLT location of Deep Water (Timothy & McCaila Andrews) got together to organize the 2nd Annual BLT Community Fall Fair this Sunday. The Andrews shared, “We had a core team of 12 volunteers who planned the event, 109 volunteers serving on the week/day of, and we partnered with plus 30+ community businesses who either had booths at the fair, or contributed donations to help make this event entirely free to everyone who attended – free games, food, local live music, bouncy castles, contests and giveaways.”
  • “We saw over 2100 people (double from last year!) over the course of the afternoon, and we were able to give away over $2000 in prizes, including student tuition for a week at Bayside (a local Christian camp), mechanic services for several parents who needed car repairs, family photo sessions, and back to school haircuts. Jesus was honored through tangible love, generosity, community connections & friendships begun and fostered, and many great conversations!“
With more than 2100 guests from the BLT & surrounding area (about 15K people), this is incredible connection in a single day with way north of 10% of the greater community for a Kingdom location that is not even one year old – Praise the Lord!

Moncton (Jim Clements) has enjoyed an exciting launch this month with Friday’s Volunteer Appreciation Banquet (bottom pic) hosting nearly 300 who have invested more than 30,000 volunteer hours of ministry over the past year!

  • Earlier this month launched the Seniors Ministry (top pic) in style with a full breakfast to remember. Jim shared, “Seniors at MW are lead by Joyce Gildart along with her team, they fed over 130 seniors of breakfast, man they love their bacon – ha! This ministry is not a MW-only ministry, it engages people from various churches, various communities, friends of friends…you will only be a stranger in this group for a few short minutes.”
Journey (Matt Maxwell) enjoyed a fantastic Fall Kick-Off on Sunday. Matt shared, “Tons of new people – over 450 in attendance. One salvation during our prayer time!” Some pie-in-the-face fun was enjoyed by everyone except the pastoral team!
David Smith came and unpacked the whole Gospel during Framework‘s (Jason Blaikie) annual Mens Summit Weekend. Jason shared, “As our 40 men listened they were challenged to say yes to God in all things and not simply have selective obedience or selective disobedience. As Dr. Smith pulled out truths tying OT to NT, our men were challenged to action but also with responsibility. We all are ‘called’ to be disciple makers. As we prayed and anointed people dealing with idols I was blown away with how the Holy Spirit was working in these men this weekend. Excited to see how these transformations help mold our church moving forward.”
Caton’s Island – Men’s Weekend
Another forty-five men gathered this same weekend for the postponed Mens Weekend on Caton’s Island (Dean Stephenson). Dean shared, “It was an incredible weekend. Some world class brisket and Bible. Our 2023 season concludes only 63 registrations shy of our 2025 goal for 2,025 campers in one summer!”
The Wesleyan Church has a long and rich history of women and men working alongside one another in ministry. What could it look like to more fully live out that historic value in our churches today? E&CD’s Rev. Carla Working interviewed Dr. Rob Dixon to learn how we can form ministry partnerships between women and men that are simultaneously personally satisfying and missionally effective.
  • CLICK HERE to glean the timely wisdom of this excellent interview based on the work in Rob’s most recent book. A complimentary copy of his book will be provided for every Lead Pastor at our January Ministerial which can be circulated to read by each member of your pastoral team.
PreacHer Sunday continued across the Atlantic Region this weekend with Christine Blaikie @ Framework, Janel Clark @ River Valley, & Sharon Guptill @ Browns Flat Fellowship. Carla Working shared, “There will always be this gender struggle with some wondering can women and men serve together and flourish and be healthy but I think we are making progress.”
  • Generosity is not about how much you give; it’s about how much you trust God with what you have. (Pat Steeves)
  • The hardness of God is kinder than the softness of men. (C.S. Lewis)
  • Setting healthy boundaries for the sake of your mental, spiritual, and emotional health is not a sign of immaturity. It is a sign of a maturity. It only drifts toward immaturity when you weaponize your boundaries or use them to avoid the growth that comes from learning how to resolve conflict. There is a fine line that requires wisdom and discernment. (Kyle Ray)

Young Adults Headed to College?
If you have students from your church that are heading to university or college this fall, you know that their faith will be tested in critical ways over the next number of months. The pressures they face could honestly end up breaking down the faith that they’ve built during their years at your church.
  • But that doesn’t have to be the story. In fact, recent research shows that if someone from your church helps to build a bridge to Christian community in a student’s new town, the chances that they’ll stay connected to the local church doubles. It’s for that reason that Jeremy MacDonald (Moncton) has put together the resources to do that in a unique and special way — by inviting your graduating students to become Post-Secondary Missionaries. Sent from your church to their new communities.

Everything you need is located in this folder: https://bit.ly/3gnm7hU. You can also reach out to Jeremy with any questions or help you’d like with your youth ministry as his organization, the Youth Worker Community, is helping churches across our country better disciple students each week. He can be reached at jeremy@youthworker.community.
