Saint John First (Graham Perry) rolled out the royal red carpet this Saturday for “The Mrs” as Charlene MacKenzie celebrated her 90th Birthday in style! Ellen & I were thrilled to join about 200 others who dropped by to listen in as she shared from her heart and encouraged donations in lieu of personal gifts for the accessible washroom upgrades at Beulah Camp. Her whirlwind trip from Grand Manan was a passionate and joy-filled highlight of the weekend for everyone who could be present!

Fredericton Youth Groups Join Forces
The first “CityWide” Youth Night gathered last week as a once a month youth collaboration event between Corbett, Crosspoint, and Journey. There were over 80 students and leaders in attendance and it was a great night full of community and worship with students from across Fredericton.

Rich Thomas (Easton) shared this recent update:

“It’s been a wonderful month of loving our communities; 13 people volunteered with the local elementary school’s PTO to support their Harvest Festival, that same night The King’s Messengers performed for a packed house, and the following week we celebrated our local Veteran’s at The Gathering (our monthly community outreach dinner and family activity). Participants made cards for the residents at the Veterans home. While delivering them we were asked to come back soon and minister to the residents.”

This past Monday the Wesleyan Education Council (WEC) gathered at HQ with all the Presidents and Trustee Board Chairs (top picture). These are important times of embracing new ways for new days in how our Universities are raising and releasing Kingdom force and preparing pastoral leadership for the challenges ahead.

  • Chris Bounds made a special presentation to the General Board which included this challenge, “In the midst of confusion there is the need for conversation that brings clarity. Because our culture is speaking into the lives of our young people, in the vacuum of truth their confusion will continue. The issues of sex and sexuality are at the very heart of Scripture and should be at the heart of our regular teaching in the local church.”

General Board action and reports included a highlight from Dr. Craig Dunn who is in his 23rd year as CEO of Wesleyan Investment Foundation. WIF celebrated 77 years of existence on November 5, 2023. Craig shared, “God has blessed us in the first 70 years with $1Billion in assets and we reached the $2Billion milestone this fall in just seven moer years. Most of all, we are pleased to be doing the same thing that we were doing 77 years ago: Helping churches reach their communities for Christ!”

Phase One Completed on “The Lodge” – Caton’s Island

Caton’s Island Giving Tuesday

In the landscape of today we need safe places that challenge and help shape who we are.  Summer camp is one of those places.  It sparks memories in all who have attended: memories of friends around a campfire, challenges to be conquered, and confidence to be gained.  Without the support of others volunteering their time or finances, we wouldn’t be as effective in reaching as many campers.  As costs increase, we need more partners to help support our mission.  This Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to partner with us.  Please consider a gift toward our new Staff Lodge or a monthly gift to continue the ministry.

Ellen joins me in expressing our sincere condolences on behalf of the Atlantic District to the children and extended family of Mrs. Merle Gorveatte. Her unexpected passing early on Wednesday, November 15th, was a peaceful journey from sleep into her Saviour’s loving arms. A beloved ministerial widow to both Rev. Jack Stevens and Dr. Ken Gorveatte, Merle invested a lifetime of love and Kingdom impact in the spiritual history and families of the Atlantic District.

  • A celebration of her life and ministry was held this Sunday afternoon in Norton at Sherwood Funeral Home. A highlight moment included a beautiful eulogy by her son Allan Stevens who returned home from Albania with his family. The grandchildren singing the hymn My Jesus I Love Theewas a moving tribute to a life well lived.

Thank you to the many ministers and spouses who attended the service in support of the family and to honour Merle’s memory. We lift up the grieving hearts of her children Robert, Jackalyn (Dana), John (Lucy), Allan (Sheri), Patricia (Duane), & Andrew (Heather) as well as her stepchildren, Mark (Sherry), Ruth (Fred) , Beth (Steven), & Joel (Tracey). CLICK HERE for her obituary with opportunity to share words of comfort and support to the family.

  • Power is never yours. It is yours to steward for those who need to be empowered for movement. (Kevin Myers)
  • Paul got beat up more than idolized. Persecution is the price of movement. (Wayne Schmidt)
  • While Christ made bold pronouncements regarding sin and righteousness, He also shared more tables than he flipped. (Chris Bounds)

Being vs. Doing – A Critical Reminder

The energy and excitement of fall momentum is palpable. These are the easiest days to slip into old habits… to our peril of both cause and soul. Tyler Stanton gives us a phenomenal reminder about the essential rhythms of Vine-abiding that come through an intentional Rule of Life.
