It’s Monday Again

Congratulations to Hillside (Jay Guptill) on yesterday’s election (91%) of their new Lead Pastor, Rev. Dave Dixon! Dave & Kim enjoyed a weekend of interaction with the congregation and will be moving to Cole Harbour this summer with their three children – Shyanna, Jeremiah, & Elly. Welcome to the Atlantic District family!
Celebrating transformation was the order of the day yesterday at Brazil Lake (Kevin Myers). Kevin shared, “It’s always a great day at The Lake when you get to baptize a couple of people!”

  • There was also an exciting point of celebration announced yesterday at Journey(Matt Maxwell). The recent sale of land has allowed for the church to become debt free with a mortgage burning ceremony planned for May 15th – stay tuned!

Encouraging reports of increased in-person attendance are beginning to trickle in from around the district. Framework (Bud Fancy) had its third consecutive weekend with 500+ onsite for services.

Kingswood University celebrated Baccalaureate and Commencement Services this weekend for the Class of 2022. Rev. Dr. Ken Gavel presented the Baccalaureate address. The Commencement address was given by the Rev. Dr. David Wells, General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.

Several Atlantic ministers received graduate degrees this weekend. Rebecca Perry (Saint John First) was conferred the degree of Master in Ministry in Youth, Children, & Family from Wesley Seminary (pictured above left). Rebecca was also honoured at the Kingswood Commencement with her induction into the Delta Epsilon Chi Honour Society.

  • Timothy Andrews (Deep Water – pictured above right) and Andrew Ross (Houlton) were both conferred the  degree of Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology.
Congratulations to all!

This week also marked two days of DBMD interviews with Ministerial Students, Licenced Ministers, and potential Ordinands. Special thanks to our DBMD members who provide this critical investment in raising leaders for Kingdom service. Pictured above was a special time of prayer by Jay Guptill for David & Melissa Tysick (currently at Live Well and joining the staff of New Hope this summer) at the conclusion of their successful Ordination Interviews. They will be another celebrated addition of the many Ordained Atlantic couples pending their approval at District Conference. There will be a total of six Ordinands ready to join our ministerial tribe on Friday, July 8th in the Beulah Tabernacle and many of those Ordained in 2020 & 2021 on Zoom will elect to take part in this service as well – you won’t want to miss this highlight during Beulah Family Camp!

World Hope International (Canada) convened the spring session of its Board of Directors this past Thursday. God is meeting needs in very significant ways through our partnership with World Hope and CEO Tanya Nace reported encouraging growth in donor relationships over the past two years. When comparing 2021 donor indicators with 2020 there had been a 7.1% increase in total number of donors, a 172% increase in the number of donations of $25 or less, and an 80% increase in donations of $5K – $10K.

And our celebrated CEO and her team are willing to go to extreme lengths to engage us in making a difference. You really need to CLICK HERE and watch this polar dip taken last Friday to challenge us to take part in the upcoming virtual Spring Gala! Every dollar donated will be matched up to the first $25K – don’t miss out on this 30-minute inspirational update…

CLICK HERE first to open the website where you can sign up and then CLICK HERE to meet Curtis and get a five-minute overview of this cool way for us to make this happen. The Carry Bible app will allow us to read the same passage together each day, comment on the passage to one another, share prayer requests and praise reports, and engage in large group conversation. We are praying God moves in a powerful way over these 28 days!

Points to Ponder
  • Love is the diamond and all the other virtues are facets of it. (Ken Gavel)
  • Without a deep feeling of self-respect, you cannot forgive and will always feel anger, resentment, and revenge. Loving one another means forgiving one another over and over again. (Henri Nouwen)
  • Great leadership isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the courage to push through it. (Carey Nieuwhof)

One Conference was formed out of the desire to see churches in our region united in their pursuit of Jesus. Over the last few years, we’ve gone from being in ONE arena with massive crowds and energy, to being exclusively online during the pandemic. This year, we are excited to take a step toward having everyone together again soon! One Conference will be hosted at three sites throughout the region this year in Halifax, Moncton, and Saint John! Combined, these three sites will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to attend, and we’re thrilled to make this transition toward being together in ONE room once again in 2023. CLICK HERE for more information about how to register your youth group for your preferred location.

CLICK HERE to visit the official HQ website for UNLEASHED, our 14th North American General Conference. The full schedule and all of the Memorials (resolutions for voting) are available. I joined David Zigler (Coastal Community) and AJ Plaizier (Yarmouth) in February to share our perspectives and experiences in developing and implementing what Pete Scazzero calls a Rule of Life. This was a companion conversation for the panel discussion offered on February 10th regarding Emotionally Healthy Leader. If you are new to the idea of having a Rule of Life, you will find the following resources helpful:
  • CLICK HERE to watch the recording of our conversation about having a Rule of Life (Feb 24th Zoom).
  • CLICK HERE to review why Emotionally Healthy Leader is so different from just any book on pastoral leadership (Feb 10th Zoom).
  • For those of you just getting started, CLICK HERE for an excellent resourceprovided by Dave Zigler to walk you step-by-step through the creation of your own Rule of Life.
  • CLICK HERE for access to additional materials that will help guide you through the prayerful creation of your own Rule of Life.
Pastor Cluster Leaders are encouraged to use these resources to inform and inspire the journey of renewal unfolding in the months ahead in our Clusters. I completed my 48-hour retreat in February to develop my own Rule of Life. I will be praying for each of you to make it a priority sometime before summer to go on a personal retreat as you ask the Lord to show you better ways for better days of abiding in The Vine.
