Monday Again

We are the People of God committed to the Purpose of God believing in the Providence of God and relying on the Power of God.

The Festival on Preaching was held at Kingswood last week. It was a time of instruction and inspiration; of listening and learning; of message and methods. Steve DeNeff and Lenny Luchetti were our keynote speakers and presented powerfully. In addition to our tribe pictured above, the Atlantic Baptists were well represented and their Executive Minister Peter Reid was one of the presenters. Other groups were also represented at this exceptional event. Thanks to Kingswood for hosting the Festival. Visit the Kingswood website to find the notes and presentations from the Festival.
A few choice quotes from the Festival:

  • Authority in preaching is not a home run.  It is a batting average.
  • Nothing succeeds like content in a sermon. There is no good way to say nothing.
  • Novelty is not what is needed. Depth is what is needed.
  • If ego is not crucified, your ministry will be.
  • How do we reach out to this present age without selling out to this present age?
  • Sermons are not microwaveable – they are crockpots.
  • Pity the one who speaks magnificently about the meaningless.

Met last week with Rob Trafton to discuss various matters relative to Beulah and Caton’s for this summer. There will be a follow up meeting this week also involving Scott Rhyno. Watch IMA for more detail coming soon.

Don Ingersoll will be candidating for the Lead Pastor position in Sussex next Sunday, the 13th. Watch for a report soon.
I was on an assignment for two days last week in the US with former General Superintendent Dr. Harry Wood. He and I were first involved in ministry together in Wesleyan Youth leadership in the 70’s. What tremendous value there is in long- term shared ministry with a trusted colleague.
Yesterday there was a guest from Swaziland at Saint John First for a World Hope presentation; a baptism at Moncton; a new attenders luncheon at Crosspoint; new sermon series at Sussex; a sermon on submission at Deep Water; positive reinforcement of volunteers at KVEast. How do I know these things? Twitter. Pastors, if you are not tweeting, sign up and share praise notes that I can then share in IMA. Inspiring all round. Onward and upward!
THOT:  Three things the leader must not delegate from Eric Geiger:

  1. Clarity of Identity – are our beliefs and values explicitly clear and understood by the people?
  2. Clarity of Direction – without a defining direction, many directions are invented and directionless chaos can ensue.
  3. Building the Team – the health and culture of the ministry is connected to the health and culture of the leaders.
