Crystal Wesleyan LBA Engages District Fleet Tracker
The LBA of Crystal voted unanimously this weekend to recommend a congregational vote on February 5th for an Extended Call for Luc Reed. At the Fall Roundtable, Luc was introduced to the 2027 District Vision & Fleet Tracker Self-Assessment for churches. He inquired at that time if we could discuss this with his LBA at the review of his Initial Call.

  • The LBA warmly received the presentation and accepted the opportunity for their Lead Pastor to use this tool in their February session to discuss asking the District to help them in a season of “Dry Dock” revitalization. I am grateful for Luc’s leadership of these courageous leaders!
The Sunday Worship Service at Houlton (Wayne Robertson) was led with excellence by the pastoral team. It was encouraging to experience an extended time of prayer with several at the altar seeking God’s presence & power. Always a privilege to enjoy spending time over lunch with Wayne & Brenda before returning to conduct an afternoon LBA session. The leaders voted enthusiastically and unanimously to renew Wayne’s Extended Call for the next four years.
During the Fall Roundtables we discussed the DBA initiative to explore the introduction of Multiplication Networks on the Atlantic District in 2023. Those who indicated interest in learning more were invited to join a double-DS presentation offered this past Wednesday by Dr. Matt Pickering (Penn York DS – pictured above right) & Dr. Eric Hallett (Central Canada DS).

  • Matt & Eric generously invested time and wisdom to share their respective district models to invite churches to work together in the discernment and preparation required for the launch of new Kingdom locations. Several Atlantic Lead Pastors who have expressed interest in considering this engagement were unable to be present for this Zoom in light of local church ministry demands. Please pray with us as we continue to discern the best approach for our context. Stay tuned for how your LBA/LAC will have opportunity to consider joining in the vision to partner with birthing a new Kingdom location!
One of the “Perks” of Road Warrior Ministry
As this Kingdom role invites “drive by” opportunities for connection, I often enjoy grabbing a quick coffee with our district team members. My Sunday afternoon travel allowed space for some time with Joel Bridges (Trinity). He and his family are such a wonderful addition to the tribe! Joel shared that through a special Christmas appeal, the Trinity family raised enough to enter 2023 debt free!

  • Speaking of generous giving – please note that last week’s reference to the La Gonave Hospital did happen but was from the previous year – totally my mistake. Here is what actually happened this year…

Moncton (Interim Lead Pastor Jim Clements) has continued to experience incredible generosity through the congregation and through outside donors. The annual Christmas offering goal was set at $100,000 involving 3 strategic partnerships:

  1. International Needs to purchase property in Congo for a TB clinic for women and children. This initiative involved a donor matching up to $75,000.
  2. Atlantic Teen Challenge to offer program admission fee coverage for those needing and seeking help but are financially challenged.
  3. Love Your Neighbour, a new program of Moncton Wesleyan to encourage congregants to be more aware of needs of their neighbours that they can partner with the church in helping those they live in and around on a daily basis.

The result? The Moncton Wesleyan family believes what they say… Love Changes Everything – they exceeded their goal with $105K – $180K including matching donor…PTL! This will completely fund the purchase of the property in Congo with the matching donor; help many find freedom through Atlantic Teen Challenge and continue to Love their Neighbours. This is also leading to a relaunch of their global mission trips as a team is now being selected to head to the Congo in April as they renew their relationship with Clinic Papillon.

A Behind-the-Scenes Servant Highlight
Meet Ruthie Alford. She faithfully and effectively serves as a Financial Assistant at Kings Church. I enjoyed getting to meet her this week after a meeting at Kings and couldn’t help but ask about a rather noteworthy award on her shelf. A while back the Kings team headed out for some axe throwing and when it the competition round started, Ruthie was the last one standing (so to speak – ha)! She bested them all and won the highly coveted trophy axe.

  • It’s good to know that someone is keeping everyone in line – thanks Ruthie! Seriously, our local church ministries are served by an army of silent servants without whom those who are in the limelight could not lead. And we are grateful for each and every one of you (you know who you are!) – the secret sauce of Kingdom effectiveness.
Digital Natives in Ministerial Training
These are just a few of the online students at Kingswood University who are taking courses for ministry training – while many are in active service in their local churches! It is an honour to serve them in a Zoom this week in their journey of processing a call to the office and work of ministry. We are incredibly blessed by the ministry of Kingswood and the leadership of our DBMD Chair, Dale MacDonald (Woodstock).
Summer Camp Ministry Opportunities!
We are seeking energized, hard-working, responsible individuals who want to work in a Christian camping ministry environment. Beulah Camp and Conference Center is a year-round facility that offers retreat, recreation, and residential living for families, individuals, and ministry groups. We require extra help during our high season of May-August, while also offering casual employment or short-term contractual opportunities throughout the year. If you enjoy unique ministry/service experiences, love meeting new people, and are willing to work hard while having fun, we want to hear from you!

Ellen joins me in expressing sincere condolences to Joel & Kia Bridges (Trinity) on the December 23rd passing of her father, Merlyn Faulkner. We offer their extended family our prayers during these days of grief and adjustment.

  • He was also the father of our district appointed lay leader, Mrs. Marcia Duff, for the Monticello Community Wesleyan Church where he served as a life-long member. CLICK HERE for his obituary with opportunity to post caring thoughts and prayers.
  • If Jesus’ greatest prayer is for our unity, the devil’s greatest ploy is for our division. (Albert Tate)
  • You don’t really need the fruit of the Spirit… if you are stranded on a desert island. (Brett Jones)
  • Criticism is like a cartoonist’s caricature. Don’t protect your ego or you’ll never grow. Hear the kernel of truth. (Steve DeNeff)
